About House of Squirrel

Hi, I'm Merje.

I spent years building beautiful, considered spaces online and somewhere along the way I realised that considered didn't have to mean neutral.

Have you noticed how interiors have retreated into beige? How every homeware store seems to be selling the same muted palette, the same safe shapes? I did. And I got tired of it.

Surrounding yourself with colour when the world has retreated into grey isn't just a decorating choice. It's a small act of resistance. House of Squirrel exists for people who feel the same way, who want their homes to reflect joy, not anxiety.

Everything here is made to be used. Not displayed, not stored in a cupboard for best. Used, every day, until it makes you smile so often you stop noticing.

How I choose what to stock

Colourful bookends with books on shel

Every product is here because I fell a little bit in love with it. Not because it was trending, not because an algorithm said so. Because it made me stop and think: yes, this belongs in someone's home.

I'm proud to work with independent designers and studios who pour real craft into what they make, people like Darling Clementine, wxy. and Hello Ferretti, whose work brings colour and personality to everyday objects. When you buy from House of Squirrel, you're supporting the people behind the products.

On sustainability

I'm careful about what I bring into the store. I prioritise renewable materials, solid construction and designs built to last. I steer away from plastic unless it genuinely earns its place, which means it has to be durable, functional and made to outlast the moment it was bought for.

A note from me

House of Squirrel is a small business based in London, N1. We don't have a warehouse the size of a football pitch or a customer service team of hundreds. What we do have is a genuine love for what we do and a promise that if something ever goes wrong, we'll do everything we can to make it right.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for choosing colour.
